Individual Therapy

                 (Online and In-Person in Reigate, Surrey)

The period from early pregnancy to new parenthood is a time of significant physical, psychological and emotional change and adjustment.   Alongside the positive feelings we may experience, pregnancy and life with a newborn can bring new worries and anxieties, or cause us to experience existing areas of stress and difficulty in life with greater intensity.

Individual psychological therapy with me offers a safe, compassionate and supportive space in which to explore your thoughts, and concerns, and seek new ways to understand your experience, helping you to find the best way forward and experience improved emotional wellbeing.  

 

Some of the common areas of difficulty I am able to support with include:     

-  worries and anxieties

-  low mood during pregnancy and in the postnatal period

-  difficulties connecting with your pregnancy or bonding with your baby

-  self-criticism, loss of self-identity, confidence and self-esteem

-  recovering from a difficult or traumatic birth

-  Trauma and distress caused by pregnancy, birth or loss

-  Obsessive compulsive disorder

-  Adjustment to pregnancy and parenthood

-  Dealing with the psychological impact of unexpected medical issues during pregnancy (e.g. placental abnormalities,           

   gestational diabetes, pelvic girdle pain, hyperemesis gravidarum)

-  Miscarriage and reproductive loss

-  Re-emergence of difficult emotional experiences from childhood

I work in an integrative way, drawing on my specialist training in compassion-focused, schema, solution-focused and cognitive-behavioural therapy, as well as trauma-informed approaches including EMDR and trauma-focused CBT.  During our appointments, we will use ideas from these models, together with your unique understanding of how things feel for you, to make sense of your individual experience, and take steps towards meaningful change.  

Our work together is underpinned by a warm, compassionate and collaborative approach, working at a pace that feels right for you, to help you achieve your therapy goals.
